Jesus calls his followers to a love that goes beyond loving those who are easy to love—it is a costly, intentional choice that reflects God’s mercy and was perfectly demonstrated by Christ.  Although loving people across differences and in difficult relationships is challenging, love should be the defining mark of Christians, replacing fear with compassion, because perfect love drives out fear and reveals God’s heart to the world.
